Argon at JYFL
Results with HIISI
Mixing gas: Oxygen
(1)Tuning 28.6.2018
Same as (2) with following deviations: BD: -60 V, decreased argon and oxygen feed, decreased current in mid coil, increased injection B-field.
Acceleration voltage 18 kV/3.6 mA (HIISI extraction system). Plasma electrode aperture 8 mm in diameter.
(2) Tuning 27.6.2018 (test with recently assembled 36 segment hexapole). Background pressure in injection still quite high (1.5E-7 mbar).
Microwave power: 2000 W + 500 W from 18 GHz + 14 GHz klystrons. Fast tuning on Ar12+ at 19 kV. Intensity gradually increased when Ar feed was increased. At the total current of around 6 mA a strong spark appeared which destroyed at least puller HV power supply. I didn't have time to measure Ar13+ but spectrum indicates that it is about 330 µA or slightly more.
(3) Tuning 31.5.2018 about 10 % lower B-fields, 1 kW + 0.4 kW µw power
