Iron at GSI
The 58Fe  beams were produced in 1997, 1999, 2002 using highly enriched isotopic material. For the metal ion beam production a resistively heated oven with a W-Re heating wire was used. The CAPRICE ECRIS was optimized for the production of Fe8+ and the ion source settings are listed below. For these beamtimes the maximum intensity was never requested. As long as the experimentalists were satisfied with the achieved intensity and stability, the ion source parameters were no longer adjusted. A stable intensity was measured in 1997 with 55 eµA of 58Fe8+ and a charge state distribution was measured (GSI iron beam spectrum 1997.pdf). During that beamtime the intensity was optimized up to 95 eµA of 58Fe8+.
