Calcium at JYFL
JYFL 14 GHz ECRIS, JYFL miniature oven
Calcium ion beams were produced on JYFL 14 GHz ECRIS using miniature oven with commercially available calcium. Ion source was tuned for cyclotron operation to meet the intensity requirement. The ion source was tuned for the calcium charge state of 11+ and the intensity of 75 µA was measured. Helium was used as a mixing gas. Fairly low microwave power (530 W maximum) and temperature of the oven was used (about 800Ë™C). The extraction voltage was 10 kV. The calcium intensity exceeded the requirements given. The consumption rate of the material is normally asked in the case of the production of the 48Ca ion beams. As a result of which the intensity was decreased to 30 µA by decreasing the temperature of the oven.Â
Mixing gas: He
Microwave power: 300-500 W
Acceleration voltage: 10 kV (JYFL extraction system)
Material consumption: 0.25 mg/h when the intensity of 40Ca11+ of 30 µA was produced.
Note 1: At JYFL Â CaO powder is mixed with Zr powder and then a pellet is pressed.Â
